This is a highly mystical and symbolic painting comprising two birds symmetrically facing each other in a beak to beak union; a union so complete that it is represented by a single eye. In popular Madhubani belief, 'Bidh' and 'Bidhata' are female and male birds, respectively. They govern the course of every individual's life. This pictorial image of the birds does not present identifiable birds, as much as imaginary, mythological ones. The artist has deliberately minimized color and achieved intensity through line. As the use of color is strictly simplified, the image reflects a strange intensity and supernatural splendor. What the painting economizes in color it achieves in linear qualities. It has firm, vigorous and precise lines and the forms are vital and agile.
The wonderful flights of imagination and innovative skill of the artist can be discovered when we examine this painting. The geometric patterns have been put to decorative use in a suggestive painting. Thus, it has an exquisite simplicity and irresistible attraction.
