Hanuman is known for his devotion and service to Rama. In this painting, Hanuman tears up his chest with his claws to show that the images of Rama and Sita are always in his heart. The artist has used red colour for his body to drive home the energy and vigour with which he tears open his body. Though unintentional, but the wide eyes and the teeth give the monkey god a fierce appearance, which is countered by a divine yellow aura around his head. His shoulder cloth is shown like a cloak falling behind him. The yellow cloak encompasses the red body of Hanuman to direct the attention towards the image of Rama and Sita within his body. In all this colourful contrivance, his tail which rises to the level of his head, almost goes unnoticed. Hanuman's chant Sri Ram forms the border around his image.
