The oft followed themes have now evolved. Along with images of gods and goddesses, other subjects have found interest with the village folks. Since the Madhubani artists do not follow any set tenets of art, they are at liberty to translate their knowledge pictorially any which way. A socially relevant theme of Gandhi is depicted here. The artist has shown Gandhi engaged in activities - be it resting with his wife on a charpoy, spinning the loom or enriching the children with his wisdom. If the artist is aware of Gandhi's life, he also knows about his death. In one corner is the scene with Nathuram Godse killing Gandhi with a gun. Simplicity of Gandhi has been combined with the starkness of folk art to produce this novel work.
