Ganesha here is seated on a throne placed on the terrace against a pleasing background. The clear blue sky gives way to remnants of the setting sun. A dense vegetation conceals the sun and thus shades of the fiery sun can be seen. The pot-bellied god relaxes with his foot resting on a low foot stool and his right arm resting on a bolster. His trunk hangs straight and then turns left. Incidently, it does not reach the bowl of modakas that he holds in the front left hand. In the two rear hands he holds the ankusha and the pasa. Ankusha, the elephant goad represents and eternal source of guidance for the ignorant. The pasa, on the noose is symbolic of wisdom. These attributes in the hands of Ganesha displays the over-coming of ignorance with wisdom. In his front right hand he holds the sarojbhrt, the pink coloured lotus that blooms in the day. Vedic literature declares that the lotus was born out of Varuna's brilliance.
In the foreground lies a tray of fruits, a jar of pure water and the rat, Ganesha's vehicle sits on rear limbs, looking up to his lord and master. The artist paints the rat, a well fed rodent, feasting on fruits and sweets like ganesha himself.
