This painting depicts the planet Buddh, (Mercury). He was the son of Soma by Tara, the wife of Brihaspati. It is said that if a person, be born under the planet Buddha, he will be fortunate, obtain an excellent wife etc. By Hindu calendar, a day is named Buddha, Wednesday.
Budha sits on a beast, holding a trident and a lotus in the two left hands; the two right ones held in the 'abhaya' and 'varada' mudra. A bejeweled crown rests on his head. The only empty space on the upper left corner is occupied by a vine bearing flowers.
The artist has used the basic yellow, red and green extensively. He has encapsuled the bright picture within a black border with red and white dots.
