This heavily bejewelled lady is the creation of Shri Gopal Prasad Sharma, winner of the Rajasthan state award in the realm of miniature painting.

Holding her chunri or veil with her left hand she presents a pleasant countenance. The highlight of the artwork is the heavy golden jaal (net-like) work on this diaphanous drape, painted with 24 karat. Another singularity is the exhaustive use of real gemstones and semi-precious stones, glued with a strong adhesive on to the surface of the painting, to bring out the fantastic effect of the jewelry. Especially noteworthy are the necklaces, hand ornaments, fore-head tika and the earrings.

The viewer is irresistibly drawn towards the face of the lady, shown in profile. Indian Miniature artists almost always invariably depict human portraits in profile. Marked by a finely arched eyebrow and sharp nose, the crowning glory of this profile is the beautiful, intoxicating eye.

Beneath the long, slender neck is the magnificent bosom, the fountainhead of life's nourishment. The tight bodice concealing from the eye this bounty of nature is painted over with floral motifs all over. This short choli (ancient Indian version of the blouse) is just able to restrain these ample, succulent orbs.
