In this painting, the painters indebtedness to Mughal prototypes is clear. He exhibits a distantly Mughal attitude towards color, space, composition and the observation of natural events. The event depicted here is a victory march with the victor atop the richly caparisoned elephant following the camel with an equally rich overcloth. The courtiers are marching holding a spear like objet in their hands. There is no variation in the movement of the hands of all these minute figures. Each one is a replica of the other in respect of dress and movement: all are wearing similarly styled dress and turbans. Numerous victory flags can be seen in the background.
In this miniature painting on an antiquated stamped paper, the artist not only demonstrates the minuteness in detail, the complexity of composition and the sureness of execution, but also reflects the pomp and ceremony. The depiction of the sky is used to create the distant horizon and depth in the miniature, with the aid of curling patchy clouds.
The linework is rhythmic and expressive. the composition of the picture is exuberant and original, its forms and colors arranged with an almost abstract sensibility.
