In monochrome, the artist narrates a scene from the Bhagwat Gita, wherein Arjun is pleading with Krishna with folded hands, and Krishna, while manoeuvring the chariot, turns back to sermonize. The Chariot is being pulled by two white horses with victory flags and all other royal trimmings. The Bhagwad Gita is the dialogue between the divine Krishna and Arjuna, the Pandava prince, during the war between the cousins, the Kauravas and the Pandavas on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Krishna had become Arjuna's Charioteer, for he refused to take up arms in the family feud. Arjun, seeing his kinsmen ranged against him was overcome by despair and said, "O Krishna! I do not desire to slay these enemies even for the sake of the lordship of the three worlds, let alone the earth."
This situation is the setting for the profound philosophical teaching which is the core of Hinduism and has exerted a powerful influence in India for more than a thousand years.
