Of extremely sweat countenance, he is the most easily recognizable of all the great deities. Before beginning a new project, every religious Hindu prays to Lord Ganesha and seeks his blessings. Not only Hinduism, the Buddhist and Jains have also incorporated Ganesha in their pantheon.

Riding a chariot driven by four saddled and harnessed rats, Ganesha looks divine. In two upper hands, he holds his usual attributes, the ankusha and the pasa. He utilizes the other two hands in manoeuvring the chariot. The chariot itself is fancy with festoons and trimmings of all kinds. Ganesha is dressed in a loin-cloth and adorned with lavish jewellery. The rats are huge in size and saddled in a rich fashion. By giving them triangular teeth, the artist has tried to induce ferocity in the rodents. Even though he has worked in monochrome, the work does not reflect monotony. The festoons and decorations hanging from the chariot and from the border of the painting lend a joyous look to the auspicious theme.

The rat driven chariot, carrying Ganesha is not frequently found on temple walls. The artist uses the traditional iconography coupled with his imagination and immense skill and the marvellous result is here for us to see.
