Every art takes inspiration from religion at some level. Mythology creates enough tales for the artist to thematically take advantage of it.

Shiva who is mostly portrayed as a yogi meditating on Kailash or a wanderer, is also a family man. Here we see Shiva & Parvati seated on Shiva's vehicle, Nandi the bull. The gentle beast is blessed to be able to seat the duo on its back. The four armed Shiva holds the damaru and an antelope in two back hands. His right hand is raised in a gesture of blessing while the left one holds Parvati by the waist. The serpent, closely associated with Shiva can be seen around his head. Parvati attired in fine clothes and exquisite jewellery is the effervescent spouse of the wild Shiva. She has a calming effect on his erratic persona.

The couple seated in total harmony presents a picture of beauty and happiness. The circular frame holds the three in its enclosure, leaving the space for floral patterns.
