Over the centuries, Indian artists developed an extensive repertory of symbols and images to express profound truths and beliefs.

Using a bright colour palette, the artist has divided his canvas into three sections. The middle is the major one housing a female enclosed within a niche; stems and flowers surround her. Above the niche are parrots placed as attendants. In Indian context, the parrots symbolize love–birds and feature constantly in folk songs and poetry. At their tail ends are lotus flowers and at either side of the niche are brimming vases – the focus being on fertility. Besides the repetitive symbols of parrots and lotus, the side sections contain a peacock, fish and female faces. While peacock is the symbol of majesty as well as desire, fish is an emblem of fertility. All the symbols here are important components of a visual language deeply rooted in India's ancient past. In reference to this batik, they revolve around the female and her being.

The colours of this batik are well chosen but not wisely placed. The right end of the work look alienated from the rest, mainly due to its stark white background.
