Most popular amongst the folk art traditions, Madhubani paintings have stirred art lovers world wide. Religious in nature, they represent folk thought and visualization. Scenes from Krishna's life are very common and very popular themes of Madhubani paintings. They worship Radha and Krishna. However, they do not fail to recognize the devotion of Meera Bai towards Krishna. The canvas is horizontally, unequally divided. The lower half has Meera, who was always immersed in thoughts of Krishna. Her devotion to Krishna was so great, that she considered herself always in union with the Lord. With a stringed instrument in hand, she sings songs in praise of her Lord and her desire to be one with him. The upper half has Krishna's image placed in a niche. Exquisite colourful ornaments decorate the blue bodied god, as he plays the flute. Different patterns in Meera's costume make the lower half interesting. The colourful figure is placed against the flowing hair. The upper half is trifle cluttered with niche decorations.
