Iconographic representations of Tantric Buddhist goddesses often show a naked figure in a dancing posture, holding a skull-bowl (kapala) in one hand, and a knife with an ornately carved handle and a curving, crescent-shaped blade in the other. Below her feet are two corpses which represent ego and ignorance, both of which she has conquered.

Such a deity is referred to as Vajrayogini. The name is self-explanatory. These goddesses are female practitioners of yoga, following to the ideals of Vajrayana Buddhism. The vajra-shaped handle of the knife in her right hand cements her Vajrayana associations, while her arched, flexible, lithe and supple body points to her being an eminently successful practitioner of yoga.

She is naked but none of feminine characteristics which define her sexuality have been revealed by the artist. The flames behind her are drawn with much grace. The yogini's delicate jewellery is fashioned from carved pieces of bones. Indeed practitioners often claim to hear the clacking of her bone adornments, as her body engages in yogic sport.
