Rajasthan with its art activity scattered over the entire land with Mewar, Kotah, Kishangarh, Jaipur and Bundi as its principal centers, has to its credit some of the world's masterpieces in miniature paintings. Portraiture is a special feature of the paintings of the Bundi school.

Here we see a young, beautiful bejeweled damsel appreciating her own beauty in an oval shaped mirror. Her vain image reflects accurately at the angle she's holding the looking glass. Numerous folds of her red brocade ghaghra fall gracefully ending in a narrow gold border. Her short choli just about covers her breasts. Her transparent odhini with small white motifs covers her head and flows down to the ground. She has a curvaceous body, a long neck and slim arms. In the slim tapering fingers of her hand she holds the mirror and in the other she has an aid to beautify herself. Her fish shaped eyes are intoxicated by her own beauty and grace. On her oval face also plays a subdued smile that lights up her face, betraying her youthful vigor and arrogance. Long tresses cascade down her back. From her well groomed hair, a curl escapes to kiss her cheek. Jewelry adds to the beauty of a picture. Hence, she is adorned with necklaces, elaborate earrings, bangles and anklets.

The workmanship in this picture is precise, the brushwork extremely refined and the line fluent and carefully controlled. The colors used are radiant and the effect is rich and brilliant.
