Kalamkari is the Indian traditional art closely associated with temples. The themes are also invariably linked to life stories of various gods and goddesses.

The artist has used a circular space within a large square canvas to narrate a Vaishnavite tale. In the cosmic waters, the snake king, Seshnag forms the throne and its various heads a halo around Vishnu's head. The god looks resplendent in a bejeweled crown and other ornaments, holding his usual attributes in all four hands.

On the left of Vishnu is his ever-devoted consort Lakshmi. She holds lotus flowers in two hands and the front hands are joined in 'anjali' mudra. Lakshmi wears a tall crown and jewellery befitting a queen. On Vishnu's right sit Garuda, hands folded in obeisance. Garuda is Vishnu's vehicle, semi-human and semi-bird, swift as the wind.

There is a sudden shift in the background colour within the circular frame and outside that - black changes to earthen red.
