The wandering renunciant who has abandoned home and family, and seeks alms to mantain him/herself embodies a time honored ideal. Represented here is one such 'Yogini". These Yoginis were adept at yoga, a spiritual and physical discipline from which they were believed to acquire extraordinary powers.

She holds a musical instrument known as dilruba in her left hand, and the bow with which to play it in her right hand. This charming woman saint has an angelic quality about her. The artist even though using a minimum numbers of colors has brought out well the anatomy of the female form employing shade work, to give almost an ethereal quality to the whole conception.

The spare colors used in the artwork blend well with the subject, in asmuch it depicts a personality who has given up the pleasures of material life, and is wandering in the sparse realms of spiritual salvation.

In contrast is the depiction of the lady's bosom. Though the rest of the physical form is completely hidden beneath the white garment, her soft, milky white orbs are clearly visible beneath her bodice. These perfect spheres are tipped by small bud-like nipples. This artwork is thus a rare combination of the sensuous and the spiritual.

This artwork has been prepared using stone based colors, and is executed on hand made paper. It comes mounted, ready to be framed, or for direct viewing pleasure. The artist is Shri Syed Shakir of Jaipur, a winner of the National award in the realm of Miniature painting.
