Perched on an entirely distinctive brick-like pedestal, self carved with the sacred ‘om’ and ‘shri’ symbols, this transcendental figure of Lord Ganesha is honoured as the god of beginnings and the remover of obstacles. That sparkling aura of his presence and sight embarks him as the deva of wisdom, intellect and a supreme divinity.
Flourished in layers of ethnicity by the mesmerized jewels veiling every inch of his body, focussing the long double layered necklace, carved in striking spiral and unique floral patterns, also highlighting the ancient horizontal striped low waist dhoti; the sculptor wants to retain the hierarchical Hindu tradition even in this contemporary world. Apart from the accessories, another iconic aspect is the structure of his trunk, broadened near the face and gradually reduces its size, fashioned in a vedampuri pose, approaching the laddoo and carved in heavenly gestures of dignity and simplicity.
Carrying his patronage of a deadly serpent coiled around his fat belly and the Shaivite tilak on forehead, this Chaturbhuja sits in a blessing mudra with the rear hands carrying the beautifully carved implements, parasu (axe) and pasa (noose). The supremely hewed crown reminds us of the rich cultural heritage and its intricate carvings of paisleys, lotus flowers and exquisite structures.
