This is a standing Brass statue of goddess Lakshmi having four arms. Lakshmi represents the goddess of wealth, fortune, power and beauty. She is the consort of Vishnu and as inseparable from him as speech from meaning, knowledge from intellect or good deeds from righteousness. She represents all that is feminine and her four hands signify the four ends of human life, which are, dharma (righteousness), artha (wealth), kama (pleasures of the flesh) and moksha (beatitude).
Lakshmi is also known as Padma or kamala because of the lotuses in various stages of blooming representing purity, knowledge, self-realization and liberation in vedic context. She is opined as Sri, a pre-vedic deity connected with fertility, water and agriculture who was later fused with Lakshmi, the vedic goddess of beauty.
This sculpture of Goddess Lakshmi is golden yellow in color representing her as the source of wealth. She is wearing a towering crown influenced by South Indian aesthetics. She has put circular kundals and two necklaces increasing her beauty. She is carrying two dhotis, where one is ankle lengthed and the other is short and ornamented. There is a small wheel shaped Halo at the back of her head representing glory. Her right hand is in Abhaya Mudra (gesture of fearlessness) and left hand in Varad Mudra signifying compassion and offering. She is holding lotuses in each of her other two hands and standing on an inverted lotus placed on a three layered square shaped pedestal. Her left leg is facing the front and right leg is slightly towards the side. The beautiful anklets on her feet are enhancing her beauty.
