Buddha has elongated earlobes and meditative half closed eyes. His body is slim and slender. His right hand is in the gesture of abhaya (fearlessness or reassurance), while the left one is in the pose of varada (a gesture of offering boon).
The Buddha is wearing a sanghati (monastic robe), which is richly decorated with incised, scrolling designs. The whole ends just near his feet, flaring open there like a long skirt. The unique aspect of this sculpture is the aureole behind Buddha with a shape conforming to his own body and enclosed within a fine, decorative border.
This sculpture was created in the central Indian city of Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh).
