The shirt or the kameez is made with a tissue cloth that is a combination of silk and gold colored threads. The fabric thus is a little coarse and transparent, for which there is a satin lining in biscuit color. The shirt has panels made in brocade work in red color. Brocade is the traditional craft of the artisans of Benaras, where the fabric is woven with gold and silver threads usually in floral and creeper pattern. The shirt has a high neck with zardozi work on small butis. Zardozi is the traditional art patronized on the royal garments long ago, with real gold and silver embroidery work. Zardozi today is however done in the same pattern but in gold colored thread embroidery.
The accompaniment is a tissue salwar and a satin dupatta with a brocade border on its ends. A heavy and rich dress for very traditional occasions.
