Kashmir is known for its art and craft. Aptly described by the Romans as 'painting by the needle,' embroidery is one of the biggest cottage crafts in the Kashmir valley. The embroidery of Kashmir raises much joy and enthusiasm in the hearts of all.
This deep green colored coat sports an often repeated, traditional, yet unique design of elongated stylized paisleys, one each on the front lapels form the major pattern. They face each other but are set apart by the front opening with beautiful round buttons. Circular lines in chain stitch run around the buttons as well. The embroidery is in many tints and shades of green, discreetly blending with the background, yet, catching the eye. Around the paisleys are scattered flowers chained together with stems and leaves. The collar, the front opening, the end of the sleeves and the coat itself have a narrow running border of typical Kashmiri floral design. The elaborately patterned back has two paisleys, each looking the other way. The rest of the ground emulates the front in design.
This green colored coat may have people turn green with envy, but walk on with dignity and elegance without a backward glance.
