Anup Jalota son of Bhajan exponent Purshottam Das Jalota took his first lessons in music from his renowned father when he was barely 7 years old. Between then and now Anup Jalota has matured into a singer part excellence and has become one of the most sought after performers of our day. Known for his versatility the smiling and ever obliging musician from Lucknow renders Bhajans, Ghazals, geets and film songs with equal grace and finesse. No wonder wherever Anup goes East, West, North, South, his easy charm and mellifluous voice holds his audience spellbound in admiration. Anup Jalota was born in Nainital and studied music at Lucknow University. Like so many other singers he was to struggle early singing film songs on stage. He came to Bombay in 1974 and had to struggle through AIR Chorus group. He got a break when he got to sing for film Sirdi Ke Sai Baba which became a big bet. But his heart was not in film music. After a successful concert tour in UK he got a deal with Music India and released the album Shamakhana that was quite a hit. He has been a prolific singer giving over 4000 live concerts and released about 150 ghazal and bhajan albums. Anup Jalota has also set a new world record by receiving more than 100 gold, Platinum and multi platinum discs.

Sumiran
In kirtan a person chants god’s name of form of couplets accompanied by music. Sumiran is Kirtan sun along with a group. It’s holy names are generally set to classical music but sometimes it is also based on folk Music. In such type of singing god name in chanted in a very forceful and loud voice. The rhythm of singing is either slow of very fast. Sumiran is also a mantra. It is know as Sankirtan mantra while mantra a person chants slowly and repents god’s name is his heart. On the other hand in Sumiran god’s name is chanted with others in a group in the form of a couplet either very slowly or in a very loud voice. Sumiran can be done for as along as you wish. The more you practice the more benefit you will derive from it but it has to be chanted in the form of a couplet for at least 108 times. This group sumiran is also called as Nam Sankirtan when a person sings sumiran accompanied to the beats of cymbals then due to the friction of hands being stuck together a special kind of energy flows through one’s senses which in turn in distributed to every part of the body. This helps in keeping the body it. In Sumiran’s person continuously think of god and a person attains a state of supreme happiness. Be accompanied in this state of supreme happiness a person forgets all this pains & troubles. Thus it can be said in a way that up to a limit Sumiran helps a person get rid of all his mental and physical troubles. Sumiran brings a person closer to god’s and reverts his attention back to god. In this way Sumiran helps in keeping both mental as well as physical health. It purifies body mind and soul and above all in Kalyuga the continuous chanting of the holy name of Hari is the only away to attain Moksha. It is necessary that sumiran should be accompanied by Pakhavaj Harmonium Manjiraas and some string musical instrument like Veena or sitar.
