About the CD
Bhajans are deeply rooted in the Indian tradition. Bhajans are simple songs in soulful language expressing myriad emotions of love for God, a complete submission or self-surrender to him through singing. The groundwork for bhajans was laid in the hymns found in Sama veda, the fourth veda in the Hindu scriptures. They are distinguished from Veda in the Hindu scriptures. They are distinguished from the Sanskrit shlokas by virtue of their easy lilting flow, the colloquial renderings and the profound appeal to the mass. These are sung in a group comprising devotees, with a lead singer. The fixed tunes, repetition of words and phrases lend a kind of tonal mesmerism. Anecdotes, episodes from the lives of Gods, preaching of saints, description of God's glories have been the subject of bhajans.

In this series the Divine is described and adored in the manifestations familiar and beloved to all of us- Krishna, Ganesh, Shiva, Ram, Hanuman and Durga-the principal deities who are the focus of our daily worship. The boundless experience of Bhakti is not confined to any one form of poetry or music. This vast all-pervasive spirit is reflected in this series, which draws together a rare range of words, music and classical. Our selections include ancient Sanskrit ] texts and works of Tulsidas, Surdas and Meerabhai as well as more contemporary writers. There is an equally varied range of devotional passage- stotras and shlokas, stutis, bhajans and aartis.

Best of Krishna Bhajans brings forth myriad manifestations of Lord Krishna, drawing from different renowned songs and hyms in his praise.
