About The Audio CD

The performances of legends are eternal. Some of these make an indelible mark and become timeless. These masterpieces are then recognized as ‘Hits’. And we at Saregama have been extremely fortunate to be their custodians. All these artistes have been associated with us since the inception of their careers. We have recorded them during the peak of their careers and have preserved their art form from evanescence and have been releasing them over time to meet the demand from true connoisseurs of music. The great works of these maestros continue to be a source of inspiration to the future generations.

About The Artiste

Ustad Allarakha as a Guru
Abbaji treated all the nuances of the Guru Shishya Parampara with the utmost reverence and sacredness, even while accepting its modifications in keeping with the changing times. In Abbaji’s words, “The Transmission of knowledge is a debt of gratitude that every artiste owes to his artform”. After knowing Abbaji’s perspectives it is not difficult to visualize how he has trained up three generations of students. The Students imbibed their knowledge from him and he was not averse to their using their expression. A Striking example of this is his youngest son. Taufiq Qureshi who has evolved as one of the finest percussionists of India and has carved a special niche for himself, as a composer and performer in the field of music. At the same time Abbaji also had students who pursued the tabla wholeheartedly as the instrument of their choice evolving in their artform, in a purist tradition. His second son, Fazal Qureshi follows this tradition of Tabla playing, exploring its expression in classical and other forms of music. Amongst others it is noteworthy to mention Yogesh Samsi, who is attaining greater recognition day by day. Abbaji’s illustrious disciple the world famous drummer, Mickey Hart Says” Allarakha is the Einstein the Picasso, He is the Highest Human form of rhythmic development on this planet”.
