The largest and most varied groups of beads are those of gemstones. To hold these beads in place and considerably add to their beauty, these tiny bead caps are useful. They are used on either side of the bead. This particular pair has an exaggerated cup shape and are particularly useful in multi-stranded necklaces, where they provide a neat finish.
This cap has a six petalled design and in each petal there is a peep through space so that even if the bead is almost cupped inside the two caps, the gem, glass or metal bead can reflect from inside.
Bead caps also serve the additional purpose of stopping head pins or smaller beads from pulling through larger-holed beads.
