Meaning of Chakra Name: "Authority, command, unlimited power." This chakra is called the center of command as it is from here that the other chakras are guided.

Location: Medula plexus; pineal plexus; point between the eyebrows.

Bija (Seed) Color: Gold.

Ruling Planet: Saturn (solar, male).

Bija Sound: Aum.

Deity: The deity of this two-petalled chakra is Ardhanarishvara, the half-male, half-female Shiva-Shakti, symbolic of basic polarity; the right side is male and the left side, female. Ardhanarishvara stands in a lingam known as Itara Lingam.

The male half of Ardhanarishvara has camphor-blue skin. He holds a trident in his right hand, representing the three aspects of consciousness - cognition, conation, and affection.

The female side of Ardhanarishvara wears a red sari, and about her neck and arms are wound shining ornaments. She holds a pink lotus, a symbol of purity. All duality has ceased. Ardhanarishvara has become the total entity, self-emanating and illustrious.

Shiva has total command over all aspects of the Self in this plane of liberation, or moksha. The third eye of Shiva is called sva-netra, the organ of clairvoyance. Becoming Sada-Shiva, the eternal one, Shiva is no longer separate Shakti as a separate male identity. Devata Shiva is the granter of knowledge. This knowledge brings the breath (prana) and the mind under the control of Ardhanarishvara.

Shakti: Hakini (seen at the left). Hakini Shakti has four arms and six heads. Her jewelry is golden and shines with gems. Wearing a red sari, she sits on a pink lotus with her left foot raised. She imparts the knowledge of unconditioned truth, the awareness of nonduality.

In her hands she holds the following objects:

1) Shiva's damaru drum, which maintains a steady drone and leads the aspirant in his way.

2). A skull, as symbol of detachment.

3). A mala for japa as a centering device.

4). Her remaining right hand is poised in the mudra of granting fearlessness.

Effects of Meditation: One who meditates on this chakra eradicates all his sins or impurities and enters the seventh door, beyond Ajna chakra. This person's aura manifests in such a way as to allow all who come into his presence to become calm and sensitive to the refined sound frequencies of AUM.
