Animal Art is not easy. Close observation of the animals in their natural element is necessary for accurate representation. The artist has to have a love of nature combined with a reverence for accuracy and naturalism.

This illustration may be lacking in boldness and execution but at the same time, is distinguished for its exquisite charm and geological accuracy. The geological name 'blepsias ventricosus' may not sound as if referring to the same fish in muted colours and minute detailing which give an overall effect reminiscent of the work of a miniaturist. The fish has pink wavy stripes over a golden slippery body. Features near the mouth are spikey and sharp, used for self-defence or grounding smaller fish for food. The horizontal line running from tail to mouth is in all probabilities not an exterior embellishment but the artist's x-ray vision to provide information on the scientific aspect as well. It is certainly not the most colourful ones present underwater but beauty was perhaps the secondary aim of the artist. The fish has an expressionless physiognomy and essential aloof coldness but here the artist makes us revel in the delight of its bizarre form and attractive colour. The fish is portrayed with grace, charm, and flowing movement, in spite of the absence of natural aquatic surroundings which would have instilled more life. The minute details in fins, scales and other relevant features are astounding.

Calligraphy adorns the two sides of the picture and this elegant style of 'NASTALIQ' add a rich feature.
