The painters of the ancient city of Puri bring out the love themes of Krishna very vividly in paintings depicting the 'nari kunjar', or elephant made of females, with Krishna astride it. The inspiration for such an imagery comes from the book Rasa Panchaka by Divakar Das of Orissa. In this particular painting the gopis are shown sportively arranged to form a joyous elephant. The bright hues well compliment the colorful subject matter.
