Narada is one of the seven great seers. He is considered one of the exponents of the Tantric doctrine and the author of the Naradiya Dharma Shastra, a great work on law and behaviour. The authorship of several hymns of the Rig Veda are ascribed to him. Several works on musical theory are also attributed to him. He invented the Vina. With clappers in one hand and the vina in the other, this messenger of the gods travels the length and breadth of the universe. Dressed in ascetic robes, there is tranquillity on his face. Wonder why he was called the mischief maker? Strings of tulasi beads and garland of wild flowers adorn his neck.

The foliage in the background is illuminated by the radiance emitted from the learned soul. Birds sit chirping on the trees; vines twining around the branches; water birds necking in the pond and blooming flowers are present at his feet. The wonderful colours of the peacock make the painting bright and more colourful.

Not only is there tranquillity on Narada's face but the environment is corresponding to the mood. Peace and harmony prevails as Narada walks on.
