The elephant in Indian ethos occupies a significant place. Due to its enormous strength, huge form, sharp memory and cleverness, Indians ascribe super qualities to this great animal.

A narrow rectangular scroll shows numerous elephants - adults and calves - going helter skelter. The pachyderms in grey, white, brown and black look majestic, their long trunks curling in and the tails trailing behind; their sharp tusks guarding on either side of the trunk. The artist may have painted them in different colours but the inside of the ears remain pink. They all wear ornaments in their necks, indicative that they belong to the royal stables.

Against the clear, light blue backdrop, the stylistic green trees stand. Small flowering bushes can be seen in the foreground. Chromatic dullness can be observed but the subject matter was such that it left little choice for the artist.
