The thangka that you see on this page depicts Devi White Tara in all Her ethereal beauty. She is seated in padmasana upon a lotus of gleaming jewel-tone petals. A richly embroidered dhoti and silken sashes that float about the lissome curves of Her form. Bejewelled gold adornments that set off the pristine beauty of Her skin. Yet Her finest adornment lies in each of the seven eyes to be found on Her person - palms of Her hands, soles of Her feet, and the midbrow. She is Saptalochani Devi White Tara, the one possessed of seven (‘sapta’) eyes (‘lochana’).
The background of this thangka incorporates signature elements of the Himalayan landscape. Dark-coloured wisps of cloud, luxuriantly snow-capped peaks. Mythical buds of alluring colours dotting the silhouette of Her aureole, in addition to the quivering lotuses flanking Her pedestal. Lord Avalokiteshvara and Devi Ushnishavijaya are to be found on either side of the foreground.
