The artist renders Raja Jai Singh in the more or less time-honored manner: face in true profile, all signs of state and rank in place. The Englishman, Capt. Brandreth, on the other hand, is shown by him almost full face, as if he were simulating a photograph. The Captain, dressed in formal clothes, and shown a little larger than the Raja, sits rather uneasily in his chair, but clearly the focus is more on him than on the Guler Chief.
