Rural Wildlife Godna Painting

Rural Wildlife Godna Painting

Rural Wildlife Godna Painting

The beauty of Madhubani paintings is undisputed. The most well-known of the Indian folk arts, its technique involves little more than a drawing pen fashioned from the twig of bamboo and pigments derived from lampblack and other minerals found around the home and the hearth. The painting that you see on this page is a fine Madhubani painting of the Godna style, a name that stands for tattoo-esque images made by putting together abstract motifs in concentric circles.

Made by applying organic soot-based paint to handmade paper, this Godna painting features repetitive motifs that are hard to distinguish. Against the white of the rough-hewn handmade paper one could make out circular rows of crabs and elephants and owls, animals integral to Indian rural life. Zoom in on each row - note the section of aged stem that differentiates each motif from the next. Within the centremost of the circles lies a school of fish, the culmination of their mouths being the centre of the composition.

Thank you very much for the Shri Yantra with Navaratna which has arrived here safely. I noticed that you seem to have had some difficulty in posting it so thank you...Posting anything these days is difficult because the ordinary postal services are either closed or functioning weakly.   I wish the best to Exotic India which is an excellent company...
