15 Karttikeya (Murugan) | Handmade | Madhuchista Vidhana (Lost-Wax) | Panchaloha Bronze from Swamimalai"

$690

Kartikeya, also known as Murugan is the son of Shiva and Parvati and the god of war as per the Hindu tradition. He is one of those ancient gods whose origins could be traced back to the Vedic era. He is illustrated as an ever-youthful god with his weapons, as if always ready for the war. As per the legends, demon Taraka received a boon that he could only be killed by a son of Shiva. Thus, the celibate Shiva was tricked into intimacy with Parvati by the gods, and Kartikeya was born. Defeating Taraka using his unmatched war skills, he became the commander of the army of gods.

This bronze statue of Kartikeya is made using the ancient Madhuchista Vidhana technique (lost wax) by the brilliant craftsmen of Swamimalai. The statue is identical to the deity present in the famous Murugan temple of Swamimalai. The lord is standing straight with his weapon, the spear holding in his right hand. He is wearing a Dhoti (an Indian traditional attire) that is covering the lower half of the body. His upper body is adorned with delicate pieces of jewellery and an exotic crown. The face of the lord looks calm and restful, yet alert. Sculptors have done an amazing job by retaining the ancient looks of the statue, yet giving the lord an exuberant and youthful aura.
