“Dakshina-Durga” (Durga of South India), also known as Mariamman, is a powerful mother goddess worshipped in South India, as protectress and bestower of supreme fruits. In this small copper statue, goddess Mariamman has been beautifully depicted, sitting on a lotus throne, in a Chaturbhuja or four-armed form. She wears an elongated crown, fine jewelry, and dhoti, and carries a damru (drum), sword, skull cup, and Trishul or trident.
