Sri Ganesha, the Lord of Auspiocusness is a popular deity in Hindu culture across the globe. His powers and benevolence are revered in the iconography of this brass statue from Nepal, which depicts the elephant-faced god in the regional style, with characteristic Nepalese detail that gives the statue an artistic appeal.

Ganesha appears in an active, standing pose on a lotus pedestal, wearing an ornate crown, ornaments, dhoti, and scarf. In his four hands, he carries the Parashu (ax) to severe the worldly ties and protect the devotees, a broken tusk, Paasha (noose) from controlling the mind and rains wealth with his primary left-hand dangling, reminiscent of Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth who is more popularly associated with the act of showering wealth in texts and art.

The mushak or rat of Ganesha accompanies him, sitting near his feet. The statue of Ganesha with its unpolished effect creates an antiquated appeal, while the steady gaze of Ganesha, captured perfectly, assures the heart of his presence in the icon.
