Ganesha is popularized as an Elephant headed God because of having an Elephant face with a beautifully chiselled trunk and the large flappy ears tattooed with a flower pattern and inlayed in red. He sits here cross-legged in a sober manner with the large paunchy belly resting in relief on his laps; attired charmingly in a red inlayed dhoti having flower patches and a blue-red border and a blue reconstituted angrakha decorated with a similar neck and sleeve border.

Chaturbhuja blesses the devotees by his left hand in an Abhaya mudra and right holds his favourite laddoo; anterior hands carry a Pasa and Noose identifying him as the Vighnaharta. The sculpture moves us by the sparkling glow on Ganesha’s face, sharp curvature of his eyes and the Shaivite tilak of his patronage. As you look at his divine crown, you will be reminded of the carvings of traditional temples, highlighted here with deep chisels and a blue and red broch in the centre.
