It is a finely sculpted number made from pure, superior-quality brass. It is a bust of the son of Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati, the supremely virtuous one with the elephant head. In fact, the elephant head is one of the most adorable aspects of Lord Ganesha. Together with the childlike demeanour He is known for, and the wisdom and innocence that characterise it, it makes Him one of the most adorable deities in the Hindoo pantheon.
The crown on the head of Lord Ganesha is fashioned after a style that has predominated the sculptural tradition of the eastern delta region. A small stoopa constitutes the zenith of the composition. Besides the serrated elephant ears, the crowned face is flanked by vine-like extensions, done in perfect symmetry to each other. The gorgeously engraved bell that dangles from the trunk of the Lord is the most striking aspect of this superfine wall-hanging mask.
