Turkish-Sea Dupatta from Bengal with Kantha Embroidered Roses All-Over

$165
While reds, pinks, and yellows are popular colours for the dupatta, metallic blue would make for a signature addition to your collection. This is a pure silk number handpicked from Bengal for the sheen of the fabric and the precision of the finish. The barely translucent field of the dupatta has been superimposed dense embroidery. The style of embroidery is called kantha in the local language, which was traditionally employed by women to piece together old fabrics in order to make new clothing.

The motifs are simple and traditional. Roses of pink, ochre, and purple colours are blooming on wine-coloured tendrils. They are punctuated by milk-white leaves with serrated edges. The spaces between the numerous tendrils on this dupatta are filled with simple white threadwork, which adds to the luxuriance of the embroidery. More elaborate pink roses grace the wide edges of this dupatta, complete with ochre sepals. Teamed with a plain solid-coloured suit, this dupatta would make an unconventional statement no matter the occasion.
