Book Description
Publisher's Note

Rendawa Shonnu Lodro's Commentary on the 'Entry into the Middle' Lamp which elucidates Reality is a work of spontaneous wisdom. It draws on relative truth and seeks to establish the connections between the ten levels of the causal plane analogous to the embryonic phases and the single level of the resultant phase in the tradition of the Madhyamika School of thought. The root text has all the elements to induce the generation of mind and determination of emptiness. A philosophical exposition of such profound truth has had a powerful impact on thoughtful minds. The present work of translation also includes a short biography of the commentator. The entire text has been faithfully rendered into a foreign language which brings credit to the translators who have accomplished the difficult task of rendering the metaphysical nuances expressed in the traditional mode of one language into the modern mode of another language.

I admire the skill and fortitude of Mr. Jurgen Stoter - Tillman to translate the treatise of Rendawa Shonnu Lodros with the valuable assistance of Acharya Tashi Tsering. I am convinced that the publication of this work will benefit all humanity.

Preface

Mr. Jurgen Stoter - Tillmann and I have been involved in the translation of this treatise since 1989. The main purpose behind our choosing a Madhyamika treatise was that all the Buddhas of the past, present and future are said to obtain enlightenment through practising the middle-path. Our choice of this particular treatise was based on the fact that this Commentary to Entry into the Middle of Je Tsun Rendawa Shonnu Lodro is accepted by scholars of all the four Tibetan sects as a work of excellent and incomparable scholarship. Moreover, in recent years scholars all over the world have been showing particular interest in Madhyamika treatises, and this too was a factor that influenced our choice.

I would like to convey my heartfelt thanks to Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche, Director of the Institute for taking interest in the publication of this treatise. I also owe thanks to the Publication Unit of the Institute for having made every effort to ensure the speedy publication of this treatise.
