Book Description
About the Book

The Goddess of Knowledge and learning, Saraswati is Lord Brahma’s first and most perfect creation. She was the one who helped Lord Brahma create the universe. Saraswati is not a warrior goddess but she uses her wisdom and intellect to help the race of gods and her devotees during times of trouble—sometimes by even taking on the form of a river!

About the Author

Gauri Kelkar is a freelance writer and editor whose area if interest now extends into the vast and varied mythological orchid of gods and goddesses. A first-timer in the world of children’s writing where imagination rules, the journey from writing where imagination rules, the journey from writing content for adults to writing tales for children has been fraught with literary challenge—one that she has enjoyed thoroughly!

Subir Roy graduated in Applied Art from Government College of Art. He has contributed extensively to several children’s publications in India and abroad. He is a regular invitee to various art workshops around the world.

Preface

Saraswati, the Goddess of Knowledge, Speech and Music, was created by Lord Brahma to inspire him in the creation of the universe.

Saraswati is depicted with four arms and is shown sitting on a white lotus. She always wears white, symbolising purity, and hervehicle is the swan to represent the ability to differentiate between good and bad. The veena, her musical instrument, is a symbol of creativity. She is considered to be the mother of the Hindu sacred texts, the Vedas.

Though Saraswati never took up arms, she used her powers of knowledge and her intelligence to save the race of gods and mankind from evil forces. She showers blessing of eternal wisdom on her devotees. Goddess Saraswati is especially worshipped by those in pursuit of learning and creative endeavours. She is prayed to on the occasion of Vasant Panchami that falls during the month of Magha, according to the Hindu calendar.
