Description
About The Book

AND LAND WAS BORN is a story from the Bhilala tribe who live in central India. The fantasy element in the story reflects the unfettered nature of the oral tradition. This book brings together picture and word in the spirit of that freedom and celebration.

In the beginning, the Bhilalas believe, there was only water. The harassed and wet subjects beg their lazy god to create land so that they can get dry and stay that way. Poor god is put to all sorts of trouble before this wish can be granted.

About The Author

Guna Baba's wild and wacky story appealed to the wild and wacky side of Sandhya Rao.

An editor with Tulika, she has written around 20 books, including the bestselling Ekki Dokki and the critically acclaimed My Friend the Sea and My Mother's Sari.

Uma Krishnaswamy is a student and teacher of art with a special interest in folk art and craft. She studied the painted walls from a documentary film based on this story, then blended in her own talent and imagination to create this unique book.
