A Bag of Gold Coins
A Bag of Gold Coins
Description
The two stories included here are adapted from Anwar-i-Suhaili, a Persian version of the Panchatantra written by Hussain Ali Waiz. Born in the kingdom of Khurasan at the time of Sultan Hussain Mirza (1469-1506 A.D.), Waiz took the liberty of changing the names of characters, to give them a local interest.

The stories from the Anwar-i-Suhaili were illustrated many times by eminent painters in the courts of Akbar and Jahangir. The book, with its singularly beautiful writing, is one of the highlights of the early phase of Mughal painting.

Three copies of the Anwar-i-Suhaili have been found. Two of them are in India and the third is in a museum in London.

In Waiz's version of the first story, the bag of gold coins is stuffed into the mouth of a cow, which is later killed. To avoid hurting the sentiments of a vast section of Indians, in our version we have shown a goat instead.

Our Nandi sculpture arrived today and it surpasses all expectations - it is wonderful. We are not only pleasantly surprised by the speed of international delivery but also are extremely grateful for the care of your packaging. Our sculpture needed to travel to an off-lying island of New Zealand but it arrived safely because of how well it had been packaged. Based upon my experience of all aspects of your service, I have no hesitation in recommending Exotic India.
