The Elephant-Headed God and Other Hindu Tales
The Elephant-Headed God and Other Hindu Tales
Description
About the Book

The three worlds of gods, of humans and of demons, come alive in these age old takes from Hindu mythology. The twelve stoics retold here contain much of the enduring wisdom of India. Some tell of characters familiar to children in a multicultural society. While others introduce not so well known. As classic in a free and powerful re-telling they belong to children everywhere in every age.

Both the vivacity and strength of the culture behind these ancient tales are expressed in the beautiful illustrations by Margaret Joncs which accompany the text.

About the Author

Dr. Debjani Chatterjee was born in India. She is Principal Community Relations Officer in Shehhield. She is also a poet and cartoonist. Margaret Jones lived in India for many years. Her illustrations for The Mabinogin and The Quest for Olwen have won her wide acclaim.

Author’s Foreword

These stories come from ancient India, but they belong to children everywhere and in every age. They tell of a fabulous world peopled by gods and goddesses, angelic beings and demons, kings and queens, heroes and beggars. It is a world that is brought to life by your curiosity and imagination.

These stories are among the oldest in the world. They contain voices from hundreds of years ago. When you read them, judge for yourself if those voices have something to say to children of today.
