This book defines the role of homeopathy in day to day ailments, how to use homeopathy in the correct dose and the way of prescription in the simplest way possible. The unique feature of this book is the talk on current theories about the mechanism of action of homeopathic remedies in the light of which Dr. Callinan has tried to explain the way how homeopathic remedies work.
The book begins with a brief history of homeopathy and goes on to summarize the basic principles on which this science is based. Next, Dr. Callinan describes the way that molecules such as water, store energy and how this may provide a scientific explanation for the way homeopathic medicines act in the body. He has also explained the theories of potentisation and dynamisation which explain the concept behind the dilution of homeopathic medicines. He also gives certain reports of clinical trials using homeopathy for the treatment of arthritis and hay fever.
The chapter on First Aid will be particularly useful for those who are new to homeopathy. They are simple to prescribe for and homeopathic medicines can be used safely in conjunction with conventional therapies. The author has also discussed the topic of vaccination and the risks and benefits of vaccination , as well as tips for parents on how to minimize the potential side effects of vaccines with the help of homeopathy.
There is a separate section devoted to Materia Medica (a list of medicines and the detailed indications for their use).Dr. Callinan has drawn on a vast amount of homeopathic literature and skillfully presents each medicine in a concisely written format. He highlights the appearance of the patient, the main symptom picture including the modalities (influences which make the symptoms better or worse), and has extracted key words which simplifies the process of differentiating between medicines. In the end there is also a note on how to prepare and what all to have in a home kit of homeopathic medicines.
Paul Callinan began his career in science, taking his BSc in Physics, then an MSc in Physiology at the University of Melbourne. He subsequently became interested in alternative medicine and trained as a homeopath, naturopath and chiropractor. He now works as a lecturer, writer and research consultant to the natural therapies professions. He has been a contributing editor to Wellbeing magazine since its inception. He also runs his own natural therapies practice in Balgowlah, New South Wales.
