Introduction to Astrology (Ganita Hora Samhita)
Introduction to Astrology (Ganita Hora Samhita)
Description

Preface

Astrology is the language of the stars. "Astro" stands for stars and "logos" means language. It is the nuances, the reach ad the depth, ad the scope of this fascinating, language that makes up Astrology. Astrology has three main branches – "Skandha Traya" viz Hora (Individual), Ganita (Mathematics), and Samhita (Collectivities). This book introduces a discerning reader to all the three branches. The introduction provides an authentic overview of the Astrological world giving an educated prospective by taking in the majestic grandeur and the amazing reach of this science, to all prospective readers who wish to seriously study this subject in greater details.

Our journey of understanding of this Vedanta commences with salutations to Mahrishi Parashara and Varahmihira, the sages who have bequeathed the Astrology knowledge to us.

Time moves on. It is a relentless march. The beautiful dawn heats itself to become noon and then wanes away to be mellow dusk. The night dies to be born a fresh day. Time marches on steadily, softly and relentlessly. Man sees his future becoming the present and his present rolling into an endless abyss of the past. The present is forever contemplating plans and carrying out endless maneuvers to brighten the future. It is here that Astrology steps in – it prepares one to match steps with the strides of time. Astrology is a harmoniser interfacing between a person and his destiny. Astrology is the one that can spot the "Golden Deers" of Lust and Greed and save the abduction of Sita like wisdom. The utility of Astrology and a peep into its history are captivating expositions for a 21st century, educated upwardly mobile young population. This fascinating "Vedanga" explains that "Bharata" is "Karmabhoomi" made strong, "adhyatmic" and imperishible by our Sages, Rishis and Gurus doing "Tapas", Japas and Teerthas. One reads history and echoes Iqbals words "Hai Baat kuch aisi ki hasti mitthi nahin hamari".

The annexure on Astrology in Mughal Period is must read. It explains the depth and the hold which astrology exercised on the Mughal rulers- Babar, Humayun, Akbar, and Jahengir. It is the most secular of all educational subjects.

Learn the essentials of Karma theory – see how destiny and freewill co-exist.

In the Samhita, the book introduces the reader to the fascinating Astro-Meterology. One learns and applauds the wisdom of our Rishis and marvels at the wide applicability of their observations even today. When one talks of Astro-Meteorology today, KN Rao-our revered Guru, walks in as the one who has proven the applicability of this hoary technique again and again in the modern times too. The introduction shows the glimpses – for further study read KN Rao's articles in Journal of Astrology.

In Ganita learn how to cast an horoscope both in traditional and modern ways.

It gives me immense satisfaction to present this – the second, revised and enlarged edition. This book has been well received. It will be my endeavour to further improve it – the readers feedback is welcome.
