Message to Disciples: From the Teachings of His Holiness Sri Haridasa Sastriji Maharaja
Message to Disciples: From the Teachings of His Holiness Sri Haridasa Sastriji Maharaja
Description
Foreword

Many disciples of our Guru Maharaja do not live in Vrindavana, and are therefore unable to meet him as frequently as they would like. Their visits to Vrindavana are usually too short for them to clarify their basic doubts and they are also unclear about the duties of a disciples. Those living abroad have even less of an opportunity to speak with him.

Some disciples have approached me and asked about their responsibilities and obligations toward Guru Maharaja, and about the codes of conduct for a disciple. I therefore placed some questions at the feet of our Guru Maharaja and recorded his answers. On the basis of his answers and other instructions I have heard from him, I have compiled this booklet titled "Message to Disciples". I have added some material from a small book authored by Maharajaji called "Dina-Candrika".

Since every disciple is keen to know about their guru, I interviewed Maharaja about his life. It was very difficult to have him agree to speak about himself. Most of what he said has been included in the section about his life.

I have also included a note on the definition of 'guru', as there is a great deal of confusion on this subject. It is essential for everyone to know what a guru is and how rare the fortune of finding a bona-fide guru is.

In case there are any ambiguities that need clarification, or if anyone has any suggestion on improving this booklet, please write to me. I hope that this booklet will be helpful to all our godbrothers and godsisters.

Back of the Book

At present, the pursuit of wealth has become life's chief concern, and many so-called gurus have flooded the spiritual supermarket. Religion is seen by many as a lucrative business, requiring very little capital investment, and in which all earnings are exempt from taxation. Such people thrive on deception and fraud, misguiding gullible and ignorant people.

Therefore, those who are serious about attaining perfection in spiritual life should seek out a bonafide guru, as defined in the following verse:

"…..a person who is inquisitive about his supreme welfare should approach a guru who is learned in scripture, who has realized the Absolute Truth and who thus has a peaceful mind that is not agitated by lust, greed, anger and so on."

Sri Haridasa Sastriji Maharaja is such a bonafide guru. This booklet is a compilation of instructions given by Maharaja ji, which outlines the duties and responsibilities of a bonafide guru and his disciple. By following the principles mentioned here, the disciple will surely please his guru.
