TOLERANCE IN INDIAN CULTURE
TOLERANCE IN INDIAN CULTURE
Description
About the Book:

This volume, which contains nine of the papers presented and discusses in a National Seminar on 'The Concept and Role of Tolerance in Indian Culture' held at the Radhakrishnan Institute of the University of Madras, analyses and examines six important issues arising from the theme of the Seminar. The assumption that there is tolerance in Indian culture is a basic issue. This apart, other issues such as the connotation and the different uses of the term 'tolerance', the relation between culture and philosophy, the philosophical basis for tolerance in Indian culture, the theory-practice problem connected with tolerance, religious pluralism, and the Hindu-Muslim synthesis in the composite culture of India are discussed and cultural ethos. Some of the factual and normative claims and assertions of these scholars, which are provocative and disputable, deserve careful consideration.

About the Author:

R. Balasubramanian, the editor of this volume, was Professor and Head, Sri Aurobindo School of Eastern and Western Thought, Pondicherry University and also Chairman of the Indian Council of Philosophical Research. I am very thankful to you for keeping such rare and quality books, DVDs, and CDs of classical music and even Dhrupad which is almost unbelievable. I hope you continue to be this good in your helpfulness. I have found books about rare cultural heritage such as Kodava samaj, Dhrupad and other DVDs and CDs in addition to the beautiful sarees I have from your business, actually business is not the right word, but for lack of a word I am using this.

Vana, Australia
I was pleased to chance upon your site last year though the name threw me at first! I have ordered several books on Indian theatre and performance, which I haven't found elsewhere (including Amazon) or were unbelievably exorbitantly priced first editions etc. I appreciate how well you pack the books in your distinctive protective packaging for international and domestic mailing (for I order books for India delivery as well) and the speed with which my order is delivered, well within the indicated time. Good work!
Chitra, United Kingdom

I love your company and have been buying a variety of wonderful items from you for many years! Keep up the good work!
