In this image of a Rasamandala, Krishna is a making the world dance to his tune. The circle of gopis surrounding Krishna is a manifestation of bhakti, a loving attitude in the presence of the Supreme Being. The circle of animals surrounds the previous and then one with birds, implying that Krishna affects humans, animals and birds alike. None escape his magic.
This painting also implies that it is Krishna who turns the wheel of life. A symbol of eternal return, the circle is also an image of Karma, the divine law according to which we enjoy in this life, the rewards of good actions of the past or punishment for wickedness.
The colours used in the painting are subdued but restless animation pervades the lines - lines which themselves are thin and nervous, yet able to portray movement and energy.
