India has been the land of great saints and seers throughout its history. Some of them left a lasting impression on the development of Indian spirituality through their priceless contribution, so much that their legacy continues to date. Patanjali is one such shining star in the glorious sky of Indian spirituality. Known as the father of Yoga, his work towards reorganising and reassimilating Yoga towards its true essence is unmatchable. According to the Tamil Siddhar tradition, Patanjali is one of the 18 Siddhas (adepts) to bless the people of this land. Although known largely for being the highest of Yogis, Patanjali was an equal maestro of music and linguistics.

His greatest work remains Yogasutras, a text like no other. This text contains the entire essence of Yoga and details a very scientific and step by step path towards the attainment of Mukti (liberation). Yoga Sutras are considered the primary and authoritative text for any matter concerning Yoga. Other than that, Mahabhasya remains another exemplary output of his supremely brilliant mind. Patanjali is often mentioned as an incarnation of Sheshnag, thus illustrated as a half-human, half-snake.

This statue too captures the supreme Yogi Patanjali in his traditional form. While the upper half of his body is that of a human, his lower body is enveloped in thick folds of a seven-headed serpent. This serpent rises above his body, forming a shade upon his head, adding to the divine aura of the statue. Holding his hands together, Patanjali embodies great devotion and feeling of gratefulness. The statue has been carved delicately and the colours are enchanting too. Along with yogi Patanjali, this statue stands for the central message of Yoga, its true essence.
